Gabrielle Raaff

A parcel (no, make that a crate!) was delivered to my office yesterday. Joy! it's our very first original artwork purchased on our last trip to Cape Town.
We visited artist Gabrielle Raaff in her studio. We got so excited, we sommer bought two paintings! (But we had to: look how well they go together!)

The Chef Bakery

Met two of my friends at this bakery in Aucklandpark. Actually, its Richmond- adjacent to Aucklandpark., but nobody knows about Richmond. Everybody knows about Aucklandpark- because that's where the SABC is, and where all our childhood TV programmes were made. Aucklandpark always featured at the end credits. Now you know.

Beautiful place and the most delicious croissants this side of the Jukskei River. So glad we made the effort. The owner is a wonderful generous baker with a wicked sense of humour. I recommend the strangled eggs on a croissant.

Johannesburg, Gauteng

Johannesburg. Also known as I'goli (place of gold), and affectionately called Jozi. This is my home. Has been for almost exactly 4 years now.

I am reminded of a line by Jeremy Clarkson in Top Gear to the tune of "Sardinia, known for striking fear in the hearts of sardines everywhere...". Because I think that Joburg has done its fair share of fear mongering, read this article by Jeremy Clarkson written recently on his trip to Jozi. Yes, it is probably 'n little naive, but I thought it was fun, funny, well written, and refreshing.
More on my home and hometown to follow later!
